September 2007 The new album from Crooked Mouth, titled 'Hold in the Sun', is available now. At this time you can get it only from this site - we'll be distributing thru CD Baby and other outlets in the coming weeks. For all you downloaders, distribution to those sites will start in October. If you want to hear some sample cuts head over to the Music page - they're all free!
June 2007 Did we say April/May?? D'oh! What we meant to say was....AUGUST! Yes, we now expect to have the new album sometime in August '07. We're working hard at making it the best we can - hence the delay - so please don't judge us too harshly! As always, further updates here first.
February 2007 After much work, head scratching and silence (sorry for that) from the Crooked Mouth camp,it's time to announce that the new album is almost done and we're working towards an April/May release date. What's it all about? Well, it's to be titled 'Hold In The Sun' and will feature 10 new songs, some new faces and new sounds. For this outing we aimed to take the musical & lyrical ideals from the first album, apply the lessons we learned from that outing and, well, progress. The new songs explore the question of finding inner strength in the face of adversity and were inspired by actual events. We've created something with more of an 'edge' to it...and we'll expect you to play it LOUD!!! If you've seen any our (irregular) news updates, you'll know that we've had some line-up changes since the last album. We've been very lucky to be joined by bassists Mike McCann (Wild Strawberry & countless others) and Leen (The Blessed Dudes). Cellist Mike Warren (Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra) also joined the clan and Ali Mitchell (flute on the debut album) took the keyboard chair. Each of these splendid folk have brought their own distinctive sounds and feel to the music. Of course, most of the usual suspects are still on board - Tony on the tubs, Kenny Haig on lead vocals (all the way Prague, via Mongolia!), Lynne & Eilidh on backing vocals and Ken's still flailing around the guitar. And, as if all that wasn't enough, the whole lot is being wrapped up in a vibrant and immediate production. This time out the artwork will be provided by award winning Scottish photographer, and all round good egg, Kenny Mathieson. And, if you're wondering, the wonderful people in the rather poetic photo (top right) are from Italian performance group,Kataklo. November 2006 Some of the Crooked Mouth crew took a break from the new album last month and played a gig as part of rock & soul band Blue Jam. It was in support of a local charity for autistic adults and a splendid evening of good time music among friends was had by all. We raised about Ł1000 on the night and had a damn good time into the bargain! Here's some snaps:

September 2006 A few weeks ago, Kenny Haig flew in from Prague - via Mongolia - to put down his vocals for the new album. Well done Kenny! Folks, one day this CD's gonna be finished and when it is I'm going to sit down, open a cold one and have a good old laugh at just how long it took! More news to follow, sometime before the sun explodes....
May 2006 You can now find us over at myspace where you'll find an occassional blog and even more new music - 'Idiotsublime' is another demo cut and this is the only place you can hear it right now. If you're a myspace user, join us as a friend!
March 2006 A new year and more studio work. Another delightful session in the Sound Cafe saw the basis of 4 tracks committed to hard disk: David & Goliath, Idiotsublime, Stand and Ether Street. The next few months will see much refinement and tidying up; as always, watch this space for more sneak previews.
September 2005 Finally - a sneak preview of some new Crooked Mouth sounds! Take yourselves off to the music page and have a listen to one of the new pieces we've been working on. Two Worlds is a delicate wee song all about how it feels when we just can't seem to get our message across. It's a work in progress with much still to happen to it but we hope you find something to like there. Write and let us know!
August 2005 With Mike moved on, Leen - Tony's bro' - has stepped into the bass-playing breach. New tracks are being developed alongside the material already put down; long-promised web-mixes are still on the cards!
June 2005 Mike McCann has bowed out of CM work to concentrate on the new Wild Strawberry release 'The Gods are Shining' (not before putting down some delightful fretless bass on Two Worlds, however!). We wish Mike and t'Strawberry all the best with the new album.
March 2005 Studio time: these snaps taken December '04. We set up kit, drank tea, blethered, drank tea, had lunch and drank tea. At some point we played some music.

December 2004 Folks, we've dropped off the radar in recent months - but it's all for a good cause. As we noted in the September update, there's new sounds afoot and an excellent session at The Sound Cafe resulted in the basis of three tracks being laid down; Iron Wonders, Delta and Two Worlds and, as we've promised, as soon as they're ready we'll get some web-mixes up for you. We've also seen some line up changes this time around - Tony Hodge is still on drums, Ken Campbell's still on guitar while on bass we're joined by Mike McCann (Wild Strawberry) and Ali Mitchell on piano (of course, Ali played flute on the debut CD). Finally, the customary end-of-year 'thank you' to everyone who's played, contributed to, listened to, written about or told their friends about Crooked Mouth in 2004: you know who you are and we raise a glass to you! All the best this festive season - there's more to come in '05!!
September 2004 If you're not a Progressive Soundscapes listener well, dammit, you should be! Congratulations to the winners of the PS giveaway of Crooked Mouth (courtesy of the fine Mr Kenny Solomon) - enjoy folks! The past couple of months have been very busy on both the music and domestic fronts so, once again, apologies if we've not answered the mail too promptly. Talking of music, the band's experienced some changes and the new material is sounding promising - get ready for early web-mixes as and when they're ready to go.
July 2004 Thanks to those wonderful people at CD Baby, Crooked Mouth music will soon be available to download and/or stream from Apple iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster & MusicNet; we'll post more news and provide links when it all comes to pass.
May 2004 A great response from music lovers in Eastern Europe over the last few weeks and it's no small thanks to the work of Artur Chachlowski at MLWZ. Artur's not only been airing the album on his show, he's also responsible for coverage in the Polish edition of Metal Hammer. Once again - cheers, Artur! That 'thank-you' is echoed back here in the UK for Steve Mourton. Steve's work has also resulted in airplay (Radio Caroline) and now a review in Rock Society magazine. Steve, where would we be without you?! We're pleased to announce that work has started on some new material, although this may mean mail won't be answered so quickly. However, we'll still aim to turn around orders within 48 hours (so what are you waitin' for?).
April 2004 You can now purchase Crooked Mouth from CD Baby...just click on the icon on the nav bar and you're there! If you're resident in Poland, tune in to Artur Chachlowski's show MLWZ, on Radio Alfa Krakow 102.4FM on Wednesday 7th April to hear some cuts from the album. Cheers Artur! Watch this space for more music: we've been dusting off some old discs, gritting our teeth and getting all glassy-eyed as we prepare to delve into the recorded archives of our dark and murky past lives! In the coming months we hope to make material from previous bands and projects available on this site. More news soon.... And don't forget, if you're near the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen on the 9th or 10th of this month, stop by the City Rock Cafe and say 'Hi!' to Simon who'll be tinkling the ivories. He also tells a mean knock-knock joke.

February 2004 Check out our Reviews page to catch up on some of the excellent feedback the album's picked up this month. There are now 3 additional MP3 files which sample some album highlights; you can find them on....wait for it...the Music page. If you're a return visitor, you may notice some subtle changes to the site. This is because we've moved away from the frames format which should make things a little more user friendly. We've tested the site to death, but if you do find any glitches please e-mail us. Finally, many thanks to everyone who's been in touch to say how much they enjoyed the album - it's great to hear!
January 2004 A little news on the live front: piano maestro Simon Ellis has some upcoming gigs at the City Rock Cafe in Copenhagen (just opposite Tivoli gardens) during the Easter Weekend (09/04-10/04) and again in May (21/05-22/05). If you're in town, stop by and take in some first rate ivory-tinkling. Rude songs likely.
December 2003 If you've arrived via the Home page you'll know that the debut album is ready to go. It's been a very long haul but we reckon it's been worth it; the music is being very well received - watch out for reviews posted here soon. You can download the album scene-setter 'Strange Days' free of charge from the Music page where you'll also find a complete set of lyrics. More album information can be found on the Orders pages. As always, constructive feedback is appreciated, so if you've heard the songs and you'd like to comment give us a shout!
November 2003 Well, that's all the studio work and artwork complete. Our most recent release date is early December...here's hoping. One additional piece of news is that, through sales of this album, we'll be supporting Sight Savers International - a very worthy cause doing some wonderful work in the Third World. September 2003 If it's not one thing it's another! The much-hoped for Autumn release date doesn't look like it's going to happen and it's now much more likely to be November time. This latest delay has been caused by some detailed final touches in the studio - so the wait should be worth it!
June 2003 The band finally completed their recordings last month but, unfortunately, final mixing and mastering won't take place until August '03. An Autumn release date is on the cards. In the meantime there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes; in terms of promotion an extensive radio campaign is being planned for both wireless and internet services. Rock and Triple A formated stations will be the main targets, so keep listening. Distribution will be exclusive to internet users only, to start with. You'll be able to buy the album from a number of well known sites who honour electronic payment. You'll also be able to order direct from this site; watch this space.
March 2003 Rehearsals for backing vocals are almost complete and we'll be finalising the recordings next month. Our current schedule puts mixing sometime in May this year and a new release date around June or July. We've got some interesting developments in the pipeline, so watch this space. Also, we'll soon be publishing a full set of album lyrics on this site.
November 2002 With lead vocals now complete only the finishing touches remain to be recorded (beginning of 2003) before final mixing in the Spring. If you're wondering what it's all going to sound like, check out the 'Music' page for free downloads of some early web-mixes.
September 2002 Crooked Mouth's debut album has been in the pipeline for about 18 months now. All the instrumentals have been recorded and only some overdubs for guitar & keyboards remain. Work has started on the final vocals and this will take most of 2002 to complete. Watch out for regular progress updates on this page and sneak previews of the music in the fall of 2002.
